This is the 8th straight year that the team has a high draft pick. I wonder if they will actually draft a difference maker this year. My gut feeling tells me no. I can't stand the thought of another Jamarcus Russel,Darren Mcfaden or Darrius Heyward-Bey playing for the silver and black. Other busts include Robert Gallery, yes he has turned into a productive guard but not the franchise player the Raiders had hoped when they drafted him. With that pick the team could have drafted Larry Fitzgerald,Phillup Rivers,or Ben Roethlisberger. All of those players are future hall of famers. In 2005 the Raiders traded their first pick # 7 overall away to the Minnesota Vikings for Wr Randy Moss. What a disaster that trade was for the Raiders. With that pick they could have selected Aaron Rogers,Shawn Merriman,or Demarcus Ware. In 2006 they selected Michael Huff, Yes it is true he had his best season last year but still is not the playmaker Mr. Davis had envisioned when drafting him. With that pick they could have drafted Jay Cutler, ok maybe Huff wasn't such a bad pick. It was a pretty weak draft class. We all know what happened in 2007. The Raiders drafted Jamarcus (Big Money Baby) Russel with the first pick. What a mistake that has turned out to be. This guy has no work ethic, no pocket presence, no accuracy with his passes. Yes he does have one heck of an arm but we all know arm strength is overrated. What does arm strength matter if you can't hit your target. Only once in his pathetic career have I seen him hit a receiver on a long route and that was in the opener last year against the Chargers. With that pick the Raiders could have drafted Calvin Johnson,Adrian Peterson, Laron Landry, or Darrelle Revis. In 2008 it was the same old story; bad judgement and poor management. Al has this obsession with speed and pure atheletes. With the 4th pick they selected Darren McFadden. He has done a lot in 2 season right? Thats what I thought, In 2 seasons he has 856 yards rushing, 5 TD's and 8 fumbles. Thank God we drafted him, where would the Raiders be without his production? With that pick they could have taken Ryan Clady, Johnathan Stewart, Dominque Rogers-Cromartie or Joe Flaco. In 2009 the story just got worse. With the 7th pick they selected Darrius Heyward-Bey. If there was any debate before this, that Al Davis was Senile, there certainly wasn't any after this pick. He had a remarkle 9 catches and caused us the game against the Chiefs in the second half of the season. With this pick the Raiders could have drafted Clay Mathews, Michael Crabtree, Percy Harvin, or any other player in the draft for that matter. I know I am not really looking forward to the 2010 draft. Can the story get any worse? If Mr. Davis has anything to say about it, it can and will. Oh and he just happens to have everything to say about it. He will probably draft the fastest player with the most Dui's and lowest GPA on the board. It looks like the saga of the once dominant Oakland Raiders will continue. Stay tuned for more updates.

Hey RaiderNate, I don't know much about the Raiders, or any other teams for that matter, but I sure got a kick out of reading your Blog - laughed a lot too. Thanks and keep the old Raider chin up and please keep writing!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty happy they didn't take Crabtree, he's turned out well for the niners.
